Asbestos Safety

Autor: | Dienstag, 29. März 2011 | Kommentare

Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous material used primarily as fire-proofing and insulation in most buildings erected or renovated between the 1950s and 1980s, though any building erected before the year 2000 could contain some form of asbestos.

If left undisturbed, asbestos is harmless. It is only when moved or damaged that fibres are released into the air.

It can be found in a number of places, including:

•Ceiling and floor tiles
•Insulating boards
•Pipe insulation
•Cement roof sheeting

Asbestos is best dealt with by professionals. If you come across any form of asbestos during a renovation, or if you just want your home inspected, contact an HSE-licensed contractor.
