Thinking of renovating your home this spring?
Make changes that will add to its value!

Before You Get Started
The first step in preparing for any home improvement task is to make sure you have proper insurance and any necessary permits.  It’s also useful to have an appraisal done on the current value of your home. This will help you to determine how much you should spend on improvements.

Which Improvement Should You Make?
Consider the cost of the improvements versus their impact on resale value of house. The key here is to not go overboard. You don’t want to invest £15,000 only to add £7,000 to the resale value.  The best places to make improvements are in the kitchen and bath. This doesn’t mean that you have to tear out your cabinets and start over. You can do something as simple as replacing the fixtures and lighting. Small changes here and there can add up to a big improvement!

If you are looking for more drastic changes, converting a cellar or loft can add plenty of value, particularly if you add bedrooms to your new space. Other popular options include adding a garage and improving your garden.

Don’t DIY!
One of the most important things to keep in mind when considering home improvements is to leave it to the professionals! Hire a decorator, plumber, painter – whatever it takes to get the job done at top quality. Attempting to undertake most home improvement tasks on your own is often not the money-saver you were hoping for. It all too commonly ends in extra costs to fix blunders. Not only will you end up paying more, but you could easily de-value your home!
