If you’re planning a scaled-back holiday this year, but still want to host a festive get-together, here are a few tips:

•    Send your invitations digitally (start with a list, but always plan for a few extra guests)

•    Decorate with what you already have (coloured candles/lights, red & green items will go a long way in making a room look festive)

•    Keep food limited to simple appetisers and snacks – you could even hold a potluck with guests contributing

•    It’s nice to offer your guests a holiday punch (one with and one without alcohol), but it’s quite acceptable to put a limit on the amount of alcohol served (you can mention that guests are welcome to “byob” in the invitation)

•    Have a few entertainment ideas in mind (charades is an ever-popular icebreaker)

•    Have a plan for getting your guests home safely at the end of the night. Whether it’s arranging taxis or accommodation – plan ahead and avoid surprises

Organising a holiday party doesn’t have to break your bank!
