Going Green is easy! Here are some tips on how to „greenify“ your home from Anglian Home Improvements:

With most of us now getting increasingly concerned about our carbon footprint 2012 is a great time to think about some green home ideas. A lot of these are simple and relatively inexpensive ideas which you could get started on almost immediately.

Get Double Glazing
Because double glazing has been around for so long it is easy to overlook it among the other, newer green ideas about now. However, it remains one of the best ways to make your home more energy efficient. If you have single glazed windows at the moment then switching over to high quality ones from a recognised industry leader could make a big difference to your energy consumption as well as keeping you warmer during the winter months.

Dry Your Clothes Outside
Inside of using a clothes drier you can let the sun do the work for you. This actually gives a fresher smell and feel to the clothes as well as meaning that you use less energy. It has been suggested that this simple change could reduce your Co2 emissions by 700 pounds per year. Even if you only do it for a few months during the summer it can still make a difference to your carbon footprint.

Use Your Laptop at Home
Using a laptop instead of a desktop computer can help you reduce your energy consumption. A laptop uses up to 75% less electricity than a conventional PC. One with a long battery life will obviously give you more time using it without the need to hook up and recharge it. Netbooks and nettops are also low energy alternatives.

Use Low Energy Bulbs
This is perhaps the simplest idea of all. By making the move to low energy light bulbs you can use up to 60% less energy in lighting up your home without noticing any real difference other than the lower cost of your electricity bills.

Insulating your hot water tank and pipes can help you obtain hot water a lot more efficiently. If your home doesn’t have cavity wall insulation already in it then you should check out how to get this done. The current offers in 2012 includes free fitting for a lot of UK homeowners.

Grow Your Own Vegetables
This is a rather more difficult idea than some of the others on the list but it is well worth trying if you have the time and patience. Instead of buying vegetables which have travelled hundreds or thousands of miles you can obtain your own fresh food from your garden. This is a particularly good green idea for homes with children in them.
